Exciting New Lighting Products

Perhaps the most anticipated product on the market in 2013, the game changer, is this new LED bulb by Cree.

This LED actually looks like an incandescent bulb! The average consumer still prefers to replace an incandescent with a bulb which is both similar in "look" and "feel."  Cree is the first company to deliver LED technology encased in a familiar frosted bulb shape.
There is a 9.5 watt (60W-replacement) and a 6 watt (40W- replacement). Because Cree is going for an incandescent -like experience, they opted for 2700K color temperature.  These fully dimmable bulbs will range from just under $10 to $14, have a CRI of 80 and be rated for 25,000 hours of use.   These are available now online at Home Depot and will be on shelves for March 21st.

Hedy Chandelier by Currey & Co

Just LOOK at this beauty!  With our overwhelming fascination by the elegance and extravagance of Downton Abbey, the design industry   brings glitz and luxury back into fashion.

This exquisite piece is a masterful combination of hand applied and polished turquoise and jade colored glasses arranged in a classically shaped four light chandelier.  It is a stunning piece of eye candy meant to be a statement piece and not designed with function in mind.  Certainly it will work well over a table or in a luxury bath. Honestly, it is so breathtaking, it doesn't really matter if you can't see anything else, does it?

Keeping up with the Trends

Pantone announced their color of the year is EMERALD,  describing it as "Lively. Radiant. Lush… A color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony."

Emerald is a sophisticated bluish green tone associated with luxury and prosperity.
The color appeals to the fashion world and translates well to home fashion and interiors communicating a message of renewal, healing and unity.  Green is the most dominant color in nature and being in the center of the spectrum, it is the color of balance.

Did you know that the color green has been shown to increase proficiency and concentration, especially reading? Try incorporating emerald green into your living environment as a dominant color or as an accent and enjoy the many benefits to living "greener."

Benjamin Moore color of the year for 2013 is Lemon Sorbet 2019-60- a warm and creamy citrus yellow which pairs wonderfully with warmer gray.

It’s the perfect color to partner with the emerging saturated colors, working well with the mints, corals, and grays. This uplifting color will appeal to a diverse group, complementing and balancing most palettes.

Minty retro color ALOE is the Sherwin Williams pick for 2013 and looks fabulous with emerald!

“Aloe is highly adaptable, making it a perfect pick for everyday spaces such as a breezy sunroom or a well-dressed living room,” says Jackie Jordan, Sherwin-Williams director of color marketing. Combine Aloe with natural fibers, aged metals and warm wood tones in light to medium finishes. Brighter corals and chartreuse pair well with Aloe for a fresher, crisper look.

Moroccan: this trendy design style combines  a union of the best Moorish and European influences- adding a bit of mystery and sophistication to a space.

It's easy to find and fall in love with Moroccan patterns and designs!  Traditionally, these are heavy and ornate, but there are many modern products, fabrics and accessories on the market now, which have a lighter feel.  The key to a successful Moroccan theme is to select one large element, such as a wall pattern, area rug, or large piece of furniture.  A few smaller accessories or details can be added, but control your seduction by this trend and refrain from overdoing it! Moroccan patterned wall stencils can be very dramatic- especially when using metallic paint.  This stencil is from Cutting Edge Stencils.
